We are now back from a fantastic weekends racing at the 2019 Prestige Freight Lines Three Springs 360, which was Round 5 of the Western Australian Off Road Racing Championship. With a field of 39 entries our goal was to prologue in the top half of the field and hopefully move our way forward for a top 10 finish. We traveled to Three Springs on Friday and had no issues getting the Yamaha through scrutineering. Saturday morning was reconnaissance and it was clear from the offset that Three Springs had again delivered one of the most fun and challenging tracks in WA.
Prologue we decided to go on the attack and put in a strong run, clocking in 11th outright and 2nd out of all of the SXS’s, but most surprisingly less than 8 seconds behind one of the front running Pro buggies. Section 1 we set out to try and maintain our position, however late on in the first lap the YXZ shut down and wouldn’t restart. This cost about 5 minutes before the Yamaha fired back into life. Despite dropping a few places we were still very happy to be sitting 12th outright overnight. Section 2 we had a good clean run, but had to stop to help pull Ben and Trent in the #662 Polaris back onto all 4 wheels. Despite suffering in the last 5kms due to bad brake knock off from a loose nut we set the 8th quickest time for the section and were now looking good to achieve our goal of a top 10 finish. After getting the #6606 refueled and ready to go again in the last section we kept it clean and set our quickest section time of the race, moving up to 4th on road and being 6th quickest for the section. This would be good enough to net us 1st in SXS Sport and 7th outright as well as being 3rd SXS to finish. The Lone Star Racing long travel kit has made a huge difference to the performance and stability of the YXZ and has enabled us to match it with some of the turbo class SXS’s despite having a horsepower deficit to make up.
We would like to thank everyone involved in running such a fantastic event. Its easy to see that the passion and enthusiasm of the event organizers and the town of Three Springs has made this one of the best races on the calendar. The next event for Cagetec Racing will be the Kalgoorlie Desert Race where we will look to sew up the state championship for the SXS Sport class and finish off the year with another good race
