Woodstock 100 – Race Recap

Cagetec Racing has taken to the race track for the first time in 2020 at the Aus 4wd Equipment Woodstock 100. This short course event was being held for the first time around the Kellerberrin Region. The event format was to be a 2 lap dash around a 12km course on Saturday afternoon, followed by another 3 lap section. The event would be completed on Sunday morning with another 3 lap section to round out the 100kms of racing

After the sighting lap on Saturday morning the sections were split up into heats and we lined up the #606 Canam for its first competitive kilometres. As section 1 got underway we settled into a groove, learning on the fly and gradually increasing the pace. We were pleasantly surprised to have come in 6th outright and 2nd in SXS turbo, much higher than we had expected

Whilst we waited to start section 2, we saw the leading X3 blow a belt and drop time in the heat prior to us. We opted to be a little cautious, not wanting to suffer the same fate. This time we recorded the 3rd quickest SXS time and 8th outright for the section, but had dropped a fair amount of time and a few outright positions.

Overnight the heavens opened, drenching the track and providing some very different conditions from the previous days racing. Having always enjoyed these challenging conditions we decided to push and try to make up some time. With three quick laps we managed to pass and overtake both the cars which started in front of us, to finish first on road in our heat. We managed to be 3rd quickest outright for the section, just 51 seconds off the leader and quickest of the SXS Turbo class

Outright the combined section times were good enough for 5th outright as well as 2nd in the SXS Turbo class, a great result in the CanAm X3’s first race. A massive thanks must go to everyone who put on the event as well as Cagtec Racing, Maglock Air Australia and Penrite Oil for their support in Season 2020. We now look forward to the next event on the calendar which should be at Three Springs, another favorite event for the team and one of the best on the WA calendar.
