Three Springs 360 – Race Recap

Cagetec Racing has returned from its 2nd race of the 2020 season being the Inland Mechanical Three Springs 360. With a massive 46 entrants, it was going to be a tough and gruelling race around the Three Springs area. The team arrived on Friday afternoon, set up camp and then passed through scrutiny without issue.

Saturdays schedule was for reconnaissance, followed by Prologue and Section 1 of the race. After completing reconnaissance, there was some discussion around what ride height to run for the race, but the team opted to keep the X3 low for prologue. This gamble paid off with Jason and Kiera setting the fastest time in SXS Turbo and 5th outright. This was a massive surprise for the team, but was a good reward for all the hard work in the lead up to the event.

Saturday afternoons racing was to be 2 laps of the Three Springs track totalling 130kms. Having raised the ride height to cope with the demands of the ever changing Three Springs track Jason and Kiera settled into a rythm and suddenly found them selves right at the pointy end of the race. Whilst Jake Clucas in his prolite had caught and passed the #606 X3, the 4 cars which started at the front of the field all had issues and either dropped out or lost time. At the end of the section the team would now sit 2nd in class and still 5th outright as some of the competitors who started behind had made up time

Sunday would see 2 more sections of racing, each 130kms long. The plan was to pick up the pace a little and see if we could reel in the leading SXS. Unfortunately for Colin Bevan, he was sidelined with a broken belt, allowing the #606 to move up into 4th outright and 1st in class at the end of the section. With a small lead over the chasing contenders, the plan for the final section was a smooth clean run and try to consolidate on our position. With 2 good laps in the books, the team brought it home 1st in SXS Turbo and 3rd outright, meaning a first trip to the podium for Cagetec whilst campaigning SXS’s

Cagetec Racing now turns its focus to the final race of 2020, the Kalgoorlie Desert Race which should be another great event. A massive thanks must go out to all of our supporters;
